It’s A Different World

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I just read an article by Tim Pawlenty, the Republican Governor of Minnesota at Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government. He talks about the need to stop runaway government spending.  The point is very basic, and I agree with him. That wasn’t what I thought was so amazing.  What I thought was so amazing was that a Republican politician gets the Internet, and that he actually understands that we need to shrink government.  Thanks to Instapundit for the link to the article.

Happy Birthday, Nancy Pelosi!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Today is Nancy Pelosi’s 70th birthday.  If you feel about Nancy Pelosi the way I do, why not donate to her Republican challenger, John Dennis today!

Why Health Care Costs So Much In The United States

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

The one point everyone can agree on is that health care costs a lot in the United States.  The real reason that health care costs so much is we spend a great deal on preventable illnesses.  How much do we spend every year treating preventable illnesses?  For the record, I am overweight.  In the last ten years, I’ve gained 80 pounds.  A few months ago, I realized this and started on the South Beach Diet.  I’ve lost over 20 pounds so far.  I probably still could lose another 30 to 50 pounds, but I’m already a little bit healthier.  It is a small step in the right direction, but it is the first step in a plan.  I’m going to continue the South Beach Diet, and start exercising as the weather gets warmer.

If I hadn’t made this decision, I’d be getting fatter and fatter and at increasing risk of heart disease, stroke or diabetes.  As it is now, my risk of these illnesses is slowly dropping every day. It’s my body and my health, and it is my responsibility.

Sadly, my wife’s uncle passed away last year.  He got very sick, and died a few months later.  The guy drank two of his three daily meals and smoked cigarettes.  I don’t know what his death certificate said killed him.  But I would argue that his cause of death was.  I’d never be so crude as to say this to his widow’s face, but the guy smoked and drank himself to death.

My fellow readers, it is time for you to do something about health care costs in this country.  Look in the mirror.  Are you as unhealthy as I was?  You can do something about it.  If you smoke, why not quit?  If you’re overweight, why not try the South Beach Diet?  If you have more than two or three drinks a day, why not cut back?  It’s your health and your body.

I will be attending the Indianapolis Tea Party on Thursday April 15th.  It will be from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM on the west side exterior of the Statehouse.

Check here for more details.

The Indianapolis Tea Party lists their mission as the following:

To restore limited government, fiscal responsibility, and accountable representation through citizen activism and education, in order to preserve the Constitution for the United States of America.

Fire Nancy Pelosi

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

So, the Democrats have passed the Health Care Reform bill in the House.  The Republicans already have a web site up with the goal of taking back 40 seats in November, and firing Nancy Pelosi!  They have the goal of raising $402,010 dollars in 40 hours.  So far they have raised $191,530, and there is still over 31 hours to go!

Dr. Dan Benishek is running against Bart Stupak in Michigan’s 1st District, and so far his Facebook page has almost 12,000 fans.

I don’t think the Democrats realized the price that they will be paying for passing this bill.

Obamacare Passes

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Obamacare passed the House.  My prediction is that the two biggest effects of this are the quality of health care will go down, and the price will go up.  I hope I’m wrong, but I fear I am right.

Dr. Dan Benishek is running for Congress against Bart Stupak who voted for Obamacare.  Why not donate to his campaign?

Thanks to Instapundit for the link.

Update: Evidently it hasn’t passed yet, but Stupak has caved, which probably means it has the votes to pass.

I Oppose Obamacare

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

I oppose President Obama’s health care plan because I think it’s going to mean lower quality care at higher prices.  I realize that poor people need health care, and I am not Ebeneezer Scrooge.  I don’t think health care is a right.  I believe as an American and a Christian we have an obligation to help less fortunate Americans.

Regardless of whether Obamacare passes or not, I am going to blog more and become more politically active.  We have to act now.  If we do not act now, the Democratic Party and their friends in organized labor are going to spend this country into bankruptcy.  The time to stop them is now.

The One And Only Issue Is Fiscal Responsibilty

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

There is one and only one issue that will drive how I vote this election season.  That issue is Fiscal Responsibility.

Here is how I define Fiscal Responsibility:

  1. When spending exceeds revenue, spend less!
  2. No expensive new programs until the economy recovers!
  3. You can’t tax your way out of a recession!

Any questions?

What The American People Think About Obamacare

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Instapundit linked to a Yahoo News article that is a summary of Rasmussen polling data.

Here is a much briefer summary:

  • 53% are opposed to the health care plan (and 80% of those are strongly opposed)
  • 42% are in favor of the health care plan (about half of those are strongly in favor)
  • 54% believe the plan will increase health care costs
  • 17% believe the plan will reduce health care costs
  • 49% believe the plan will reduce the quality of health care
  • 23% believe the plan will increase the quality of health care

In other words the respondents to this poll believe that by a three to one margin this plain will fail to achieve its stated intention of reducing health care costs.  Also the respondents to this poll believe that by a 2 to 1 margin that this bill will make the quality of health care go down.
